Astroport is located near Gate No. 2 of Sariska Tiger Reserve which is situated in the laps of Aravali mountains. The gate no. 2 is known as the Tehla gate. This region is amongst the darkest places in India which makes it the best place for stargazing.

For thousands of years, the night sky has captivated human curiosity. But in the post-pandemic era, that fascination has transformed into a booming travel trend—astro tourism. More and more adventure seekers are escaping the city lights to reconnect with the cosmos under pollution-free skies. And leading the way in India? Astroport Sariska.

Located just a 2.5-hour drive from Delhi, on the edge of the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, this one-of-a-kind destination is a rare blend of sustainability, astronomy, and immersive rural experiences.

Where Astronomy Meets Adventure

Founded in 2017 by Sachin Bahmba, space education pioneer and founder of Space India, and Shakti Singh Nathawat, a former software engineer and son of a forest officer, Astroport Sariska – Treetop by Eight Continents was built to take astro tourism to new heights. Literally.

Nestled in the Aravallis, this astronomy and adventure camp is perfectly placed in a Bortle Class 4 zone—which means the night skies here are still dark enough to showcase dazzling views of the Milky Way. By contrast, cities like Delhi fall into Class 8 or 9, where star visibility is near zero.

A Skyward Trend on the Rise

According to Bahmba, there’s been a 30-40% increase in astro-tourism interest since travel resumed after the pandemic. “People are looking for meaningful, mindful experiences—and the cosmos offers that in abundance,” he says.

And it’s not just about telescopes and stars. Astroport offers guided astronomy sessions, deep-sky object hunting, solar observation, and even wildlife tours into Sariska. The result? A rich, awe-inspiring experience that marries science, nature, and sustainability.

A Sustainable Starry Escape

From solar-powered infrastructure to waste management and local employment, Astroport Sariska is serious about its ecological footprint. The food is local and lovingly prepared, the construction is eco-sensitive, and the vibe is consciously minimal.

But perhaps what’s most inspiring is the way it weaves community involvement into its fabric. Local culture, crafts, and people are an essential part of the Astroport experience—turning travelers into mindful explorers, not just consumers of nature.

A Movement That’s Growing

Inspired by Sariska’s success, similar resorts are coming up in Bundi and Jaisalmer, with the Bundi property echoing the “stars and stripes” theme in the Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary.

Meanwhile, in Ladakh, the astro-tourism wave has taken a heartwarming turn. Initiatives like Astrostays, led by Sonal Asgotraa, have created “Cosmo Hubs” in villages like Maan and Phyang, where local women have been trained to operate telescopes and offer night-sky tours. These centers not only offer cosmic adventures, but also showcase local cuisine and culture—creating a new, empowered form of rural tourism.

With plans underway to expand similar hubs in the northeast, one thing is clear: India is looking up—and leading a conscious revolution in travel.
